Role - As the Horticulturalist at Local Roots you’ll be managing all the growing practices of a crop category. You will innovate in Controlled Environmental Agriculture (CEA) and take ownership over projects that will change the world of agriculture. We are looking for a self-starting problem solver who is hard-working, detail oriented, and exceptionally organized with a passion for agriculture, healthy lifestyles, and technology.

Responsibilities – You should be confident making significant contributions in the following categories:

  • Developing farm Standard Operating Procedures and improving growing practices to maximize harvest yields
  • Creating and implementing a basic plant science research program
  • Working closely with the engineering team to design all aspects of the next generation farms in order to maximize yields and crop health

Requirements – Your background should include the following:

  • 5+ years commercial crop production in leafy greens or herbs
  • Indoor growing experience (CEA preferred, but Greenhouse sufficient)
  • Master’s in plant physiology, horticulture, molecular biology, or equivalent

Bonus Skills – Bonus points if any of these also describe you:

  • 5+ years in CEA
  • 5+ years of professional plant science or horticultural research
  • Experience designing, prototyping, sourcing, building, and commissioning greenhouses and indoor farms
  • Experience with plant breeding programs
  • Experience with plant disease and growing protocols
  • Experience with berries
  • Experience with vertical hydroponic systems
